SOUTH AFRICA: WHAT TO SEE, EAT, DO

WHAT’S HOT IN SOUTH AFRICA? OUR PARTNER GILTEDGE DMC FILLS US IN ON THE DESTINATION’S BEST-KEPT SECRETS.

E-BIKE IN CAPE WINELANDS

There’s no better way to experience the Cape Winelands than on a bicycle – and now e-bikes will make this even more enjoyable! The electric bikes at African Eagle Day Tours are charged, Covid-19 prepped, and ready to take you on a unique winelands experience. Your first stop is Zevenwacht Wine Estate to give your legs a break and enjoy wine tasting some of their best wines. A few kilometers further, you’ll spot the lush lawns of Jordan Wine Estate. This is where you will end of the day with lunch; expect delicious dishes such as their 8-hour braised Williston Lamb shoulder and the Mozambique Prawn risotto.

Vintage Cobra Car Experience & Groot Constantia Picnic

Cape Town offers endless views, settings and opportunities to explore for cruising around in a 60’s supercar. The Vintage Cobra Car Experience is an 8-hour tour along the peninsula’s most beautiful winding routes. The bespoke experience includes a gourmet picnic lunch stop at Simon’s Restaurant, a gem on the oldest wine farm in South Africa. Find your spot on the lawns of the estate’s vineyards and panoramic views. It’s the perfect backdrop for a relaxed picnic.

CONSTANTIA UITSIG WINE ESTATE

Situated on the slopes of the Constantiaberg, Constantia Uitsig is nestled in the oldest wineproducing region in the southern hemisphere. The estate is home to restaurants, a hotel, bike park and award-winning wine. What sets Constantia Uitsig apart from other wine farms is their focus on sustainability and biodiversity. Another reason to visit is their Heritage Market; it’s a collection of farm-style cottages where guests can browse and shop from a variety of artisanal craft producers. The estate has plenty to offer every guest!

TINDLOVU

Delicious food with an ocean view! The new restaurant Tindlovu has just opened its doors in Camps Bay, Cape Town. Situated on the first floor, the restaurant boasts a clear ocean view with amazing interiors. Taste truly South African cuisine such as West Coast mussels, Karoo ostrich pie and African oxtail with dumplings. Tindlovu showcases local flavors through current trends – a great option for travellers looking to try local South African food!

PENGUINS AT STONY POINT

While it’s currently whale season in South Africa, let’s not forget about the smaller creatures! Visiting the local penguin activities is a fun activity for groups. If you’re going whale watching in the quaint town of Hermanus, stop off at Stony Point Nature Reserve in Betty’s Bay to see the penguins. It’s a secret gem and less busy than the Boulder’s Beach colony. Stony Point offers visitors the chance to see these wonderful flightless birds up-close on a boardwalk that meanders through the colony. Watch the penguins go about their daily activities in their natural habitat, without disturbing or disrupting them.
